The Office of the Fire Marshal presented the 1st New Brunswick Office of the Fire Marshal Fire Prevention Award to Tammy Webb of the Fredericton Junction Fire Department in recognition of their exceptional efforts in the advancement of Fire Prevention Public Education in 2004.

The award was presented at the Capital District Firefighters Association Meeting on February 14, 2005.

The 2004 winner, Tammy Webb, Fredericton Junction Fire Department, was presented with a plaque in recognition of her efforts.

Webb said she can't believe the attention she has received.

"People want to have their pictures taken with you and they want your autograph.It just seems kind of surreal," she said.

The attention is especially strange because she is just "one of the guys" in her department, said Webb.

A nine-year veteran of the fire department, Webb said her father, also a firefighter, played a big role in her decision to take up the profession.And it is a job that offers a lot, she added.

"It's just really satisfying," she said."In the last five years, I have done mostly public education (efforts) in the schools and, when you hear about circumstances where somebody had a house fire and they got out because they had practised their fire escape plan or because of what they had heard in school, it's really rewarding."

Webb says she believes in the purpose behind the national firefighters calendar.

"It is a good way to raise some money," she said.
