Other actions the School Board took after the arrest were to reassign Lincoln Middle School Principal Tristan Komlos to be the principal of John Muir Elementary School, and to promote the Assistant Principal of Malibu High School, Suzanne Webb, to be the new Lincoln Middle School principal.
    ...
In an interview with the Mirror after her promotion, Webb mentioned that she would be spending a lot of time training all her staff on the District's new policies on child abuse and neglect before school opens and that training will be followed up during the rest of the school year.

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District's Board of Education voted unanimously on August 13 to appoint Suzanne Webb as the new Principal for Lincoln Middle School (LMS).

In an interview with the Mirror, Ms. Webb stated that her first priority will be to "conduct a needs assessment survey" with her staff to find out "what they love about Lincoln, what they feel we need to work on, and what as individuals they are willing to work on."She feels this is a more effective beginning for her administration rather than coming in with her own agenda because this way there will be a "buy in" from her staff for an agenda of change.Webb is also interested in meeting with all of Lincoln's stakeholders to help ensure that the transition to her as Principal is "positive and smooth."Webb did not comment on whether the change in principals at Lincoln was the result of the arrest of Lincoln Middle School teacher Thomas Beltran on May 3 on 14 counts of alleged child molestation.
    ...
Lincoln students have traditionally scored in the upper percentiles in math and literacy on statewide exams, but Webb believes there's "still room for improvement" so she is constantly looking for better ways to train her teachers to be more effective. She is also interested in helping to close the achievement gap between those students who traditionally don't do well in school and those who excel.

Webb is no stranger to Lincoln. She worked there for six years as a math teacher before spending four years as the Assistant Principal at Malibu High School. While at Lincoln she assisted in the grant-writing for two awards the school received, the National Blue Ribbon School and the Disney School awards.Webb hopes she can make the needed changes so her school will be honored with additional awards.

A School District press release on Webb's promotion states that Webb "oversaw discipline, classroom curriculum and instruction, and professional development for the entire teaching staff" at Malibu High School. She also oversaw the transition of students from fifth to sixth grade and from eighth to ninth grade, students in Special Education programs, and the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program. She also "worked closely with the middle school counselors to ensure the emotional well-being of all students."

At the end of the interview Webb stressed, " I love middle school students and I love motivating them.

At a special meeting on August 13, 2008, the Santa Monica-Malibu Board of Education appointed Ms. Suzanne Webb as the new Principal at Lincoln Middle School in Santa Monica.

Ms. Webb joins the Lincoln team after having served as Assistant Principal at Malibu High School for the past four years. This will not be the first time Ms. Webb has been a staff member at Lincoln Middle School, however; she taught mathematics for six years at Lincoln prior to joining Malibu High School.

ÒI am very excited to have this opportunity to be the principal of Lincoln Middle School,Ó said Ms. Webb. ÒI look forward to working with the teachers, staff, students, parents, and community in making this a positive and smooth transition.Ó

ÒMs. WebbÕs experience as an administrator and her understanding of the needs of middle school students will be an asset to Lincoln,Ó replied Superintendent Tim Cuneo. ÒI am pleased that she will be joining our management team.Ó

As Assistant Principal at Malibu High School, Ms. Webb oversaw student discipline, classroom curriculum and instruction, and professional development for the entire teaching staff. She also supervised students transitioning from fifth to sixth grade and from eighth to ninth grade, students in Special Education programs, and the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program. As Assistant Principal, she worked closely with middle school counselors to monitor and ensure the emotional well being for all students, as well as target students.

While at Lincoln Middle School, Ms. Webb taught Pre-Algebra and Algebra to eighth grade students and assisted in grant writing for National Blue Ribbon School and Disney School Awards. She was voted the 2002 Teacher of the Year by her colleagues and started Heart 2 Heart, a community service club dedicated to assisting a local homeless organization with food lines, clothes drives, and holiday gift donations.

In addition to her experience at SMMUSD school sites, Ms. Webb has served at the district office level as the BTSA ( Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment) Support Provider and Program Facilitator for Middle School Mathematics teachers. This role allowed her to apply her knowledge as a math teacher to support new math teachers, assist in reaching at-risk students and to raise achievement, and collaborate with all district middle school math teachers to create a common semester math assessment for grades 6, 7, and Algebra.

ÒI am thrilled that we have selected Suzanne,Ó commented Assistant Superintendent Mike Matthews. ÒHer focus on academics, her sense of caring for students, and her commitment to learning and excellence will benefit all in the Lincoln community.Ó

Ms. Webb was selected from a field of forty-six applicants. Seven of those applicants were interviewed by a team of parents, teachers, classified staff, and administrators. Superintendent Cuneo and members of the senior leadership team then interviewed four finalists.

Ms. Webb earned her teaching credential and MasterÕs Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Cal State, Northridge. She earned her Administrative Credentials from Cal State, Northridge, and Loyola Marymount in Los Angles.
