Nita Watson, health information management director at Carolinas Hospital System, said she had been a smoker since 1989, but she quit in June with the help of Chantix, a new anti-smoking drug that is part of the program offered at Carolinas. She calls Chantix her miracle drug."I've tried to quit a few other times and never had the cravings go away," she said."It was like one day I realized I wasn't smoking anyone."Watson said in the past, she had tried quitting in many different ways, but none of them worked for long. She credits the support system she has this time as part of the reason she has managed to maintain her non-smoking status."I can tell you, every once in a while, I think about having a cigarette, but it passes," she said.
