  Lance Spitzner was one of the keynote speakers at Hack-In-The-Box 2007 in Malaysia this week, and talked about some of the research we have been involved in recently (including the Honeynet Project's Global Distributed Honeynet initiative - GDH, which David led).

  Developed and led by David Watson of the UK Honeynet Project Chapter, a bootable DVD based approach was developed, which allowed participants to easily deploy a secured base OS (installed to a donor computer's local hard drive), a virtual honeywall, and multiple virtual honeypots (high interaction honeypots, nepenthes honeypots, client honeypots, etc) with the minimum of local configuration.

  The line-up for this years PacSec07 conference in Tokyo on November the 29th was announced today, and will include a presentation on deploying and operating a global distributed honeynet by David Watson of the UK Honeynet Project (http://pacsec.jp/).

  David Watson is the Chief Research Officer for the Honeynet Project, a non-profit security organization dedicated to sharing its research and findings on cyber threats. As an active security researcher he regularly presents at international conferences or workshops and has contributed to various publications in the field of IT security.
  
  David has been involved with deploying honeypots since 1999 and is currently the project manager and lead developer for the Honeynet Project's Global Distributed Honeynet (GDH) initiative, which focused on analysing data gathered from networks of internationally distributed honeypots. He also leads the UK Honeynet Project Chapter and co-owns growing UK open source software development company Isotoma.

  Steve Mumford and Dave Watson did all the work in setting up our new infrastructure to enable more open development.
