"We wanted to bring the fire boat in, but the water was too shallow and too rocky," said Fire Chief Jim Wasson.

Lake Placid Fire Chief Jim Wasson said today that fire investigators from Essex County and the state both determined that the fire started in the center of the inn, near the laundry facilities where the hotel's electrical panel boxes were located.

The investigation into the fire concluded Monday afternoon, Wasson said.

"(Firefighters) love to come up here," Lake Placid Fire Chief Jim Wasson said.

"When we arrived, it was fully involved," said Jim Wasson, Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department's 2nd assistant chief.

"It was an old house; there were different floors, and there was an attic.The closets were full; so everything burned up pretty quickly."

Wasson believed the house was built in the 1920s.Everything inside was destroyed, including the family pet.

"After we were done, the fire investigators came over," Wasson said.

The cause of fire was still under investigation Sunday.

"I'm sure that they have insurance and that the insurance company will want to get in there, too," he said.

But it was easily contained, and the crew was back in service at 10:45 a.m., Wasson said.

Lake Placid Fire Chief Jim Wasson said the day initiated Fire Prevention Week.Members of his crew are slated to visit area schools in coming days to deliver important safety tips to youngsters.

Whether a person is big or small, practice counts.

Even firemen practice, Wasson said.
