JOLIET -- For each of the past five years, Tyson Warner and his staff in the Planning Division of the Will County Land Use Department have opened their doors for World Town Planning Day.
Each year, the number accepting the invitation to take a peek into the world of planning has increased, bringing the total to more than 70 who attended this year's event on Tuesday, Nov. 8.Visitors come from as far away as Chicago to get a glimpse of what the Will County group is doing and to ask questions about the planning unit's work.
"The big addition this year was the big wall map," Warner said.
...
Warner said each year seems to build upon the last, not only in attendance, but also in the type of information sharing that occurs. At the first event, held in 2001 as part of the Land Resource Management Plan process, it was mostly straight question-and-answer.
"There's more of a dialogue going on now," he said.
...
Warner and his staff take the opportunity to explain how planning today can make it easier for people to have the future they want.
"That's really the whole goal, to show how things are all put together," he said.
