Principal percussionist of the Syracuse Symphony Youth Orchestra since September 1999, Patrick Pastella Walz is an 11th grader at C.W. Baker High School in Baldwinsville.He studies with Dr. Ruth Cahn at the Eastman School of Music and Ernest Muzquiz, a percussionist with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra.Mr. Walz is a member of the C.W. Baker High School Band, the Baldwinsville Marching Band, the C.W. Baker High School Orchestra and the C.W. Baker High School "Silk and Satin" vocal jazz group.Last October, Mr. Walz gave a live marimba performance on From the Top, an International Public Radio program, which was taped at the New England Conservatory.He has given a solo marimba recital at the Everson Museum, and has performed as a percussionist at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, New York State Area All-State Band, Onondaga All-County Music Festivals and NYSSMA Solo Competitions.In the summer of 1999, Mr. Walz was the youngest member of the Syracuse Brigadiers Drum and Bugle Corps.
