"Kids are steered toward selecting basic items, shoes and socks, pants and something to wear to school," said Benita Waltz, spokesperson for Mervyns.

Benita Waltz, Mervyns executive team leader, has been aware of ChildSpree for 14 years and has been involved with the event about one third of that time.

"It's great, the extra help all these children are getting.They might not have had the pants they wanted or that extra pair of shoes," she said.
