   By the first week of November 1990 the congregation extended a call to Rev. Michael Walton, the Youth Pastor of the First Baptist Congregational Church of Chicago (Ashland and Washington). Dan and Michael had met that summer at the recording of a radio interview with Josh McDowell.

   So Michael and his wife, Cheryl, and children, Christopher and Courtney, were African-Americans 4, 5, 6 and 7 to join the congregation.

   Michael Walton remained on staff until January 1999 when he resigned to join the technical team at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. At the time of Michael's resignation, the African-American segment of the Lorimer congregation was approaching 50%. Michael and Cheryl's personal sacrifice and ministry investment, and other African-Americans who joined the church in the early stages of the process, greatly contributed to whatever level of success Lorimer has enjoyed in its pursuit of being a racially reconciled congregation.
