James Walton Resident Organist
James (Jim) Walton is our Resident Organist at Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church, and prepares wonderful pieces on our Casavant organ each week.
Jim is a candidate for the Doctor of Musical Arts in Organ Performance at the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music, where he studies with Roberta Gary and holds the graduate assistantship in Organ.He has held the graduate assistantship for accompanying in the Choral Department, and toured Portugal with the CCM Chamber Choir in the spring of 2004.He received Third Prize in the 2005 Strader Organ Playing Competition.
Jim holds a Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance from James Madison University where he studied with Richard McPherson, and a Master of Music in Organ Performance from The Catholic University of America where he studied with Peter Marshall.
He has performed in Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Ohio, at Washington National Cathedral, and for the Southside Chapter of the AGO in Petersburg, Virginia.
Jim has served churches in Richmond; Bethesda, Maryland; Washington, D.C.; Arlington, Virginia; and Cincinnati, Ohio.
He was appointed Resident Organist of Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church in October 2005.
