Dr. James M. Walton was named president of Centralia College during a special meeting this morning of the college's Board of Trustees.The selection of Dr. Walton concludes a nationwide, year-long search.
Currently vice president of Workforce Education at Peninsula College in Port Angeles, Walton will assume duties as president July 1, upon the retirement of Dr. Hank Kirk, who concludes 16 years as president of the college.

Walton earned his doctorate in fisheries from the University of Washington in 1977 and his master's and bachelor's degrees, both in natural resources, from the University of Michigan.In addition to his efforts in Workforce Education at Peninsula College, Walton served as the college's dean of Professional Technical Education, was professor of Fisheries Technology and was the division chair, faculty union president and chief negotiator for the faculty.He also taught at The Evergreen State College in Olympia and Western Washington University in Bellingham.
