  Carolyn Walton is an award-winning artist whose work is inspired by the landscapes of New England.She is well known for her interpretation of hay bales, meadows, and barns.Her paintings of seascapes and rivers are gaining a devoted following.Carolyn's paintings focus on the light in the landscape; her work is representational with painterly brushwork and an "atmospheric use of light and shadow."She paints en plein aire as much as possible while completing large works and still lifes in the studio.
  
  In a recent exhibit in Connecticut, a critic described Carolyn's work:
  
  "The long tradition of American landscape and floral painting continues to be addressed and advanced ... Walton's paintings are the most impressive of the group, the overall structure and simple straightforward focus of the imagery conveying a sense of energy and spontaneity ... Walton creates a lovely essay of rolling terrain and undulating fields that radiate both with the affection she obviously feels for the scenery she observes and for the act of painting itself."

  Exhibiting regularly in juried shows as well as invitational and solo shows, Carolyn has received numerous awards.Her work is represented in a number of galleries, and hundreds of her paintings are in corporate and private collections worldwide.
  
  Now living on the coast of Maine (having previously lived in Vermont and the mid-Hudson Valley of NY), Carolyn maintains a studio in Freeport.

  Carolyn Walton paints primarily in oils, capturing the landscape and architecture of the Northeast and Europe.Inspired by the rural landscape, she is well-known for her interpretation of hay bales, meadows and barns.Now living in Maine, her subjects are now often coastal.Her style is painterly yet representational with an "atmospheric use of light and shadow."She paints en plein air as well as in the studio, where she also paints in pastels and gouache.
  
  Major awards include awards in 2005 and 2003 at the prestigious Hudson Valley Art Association National Exhibition in New York.In 2003, Walton was invited by the Curator of the State of Vermont for a solo exhibition to help celebrate Howard Dean's tenure as Governor.

  Walton was commissioned twice (2003 & 1999) to provide cover art for the Vermont City Marathon.
  
  International Artist magazine named Walton a top ten finalist in its competition "Seascapes, Rivers and Lakes" in 2001.Exhibiting regularly in group and solo shows, Walton's work represented by a number of galleries and is in hundreds of corporate and private collections worldwide.
  
  Carolyn Walton received her BA from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts with a minor in Fine Arts.She has studied painting with various national artists including the Plein Air Painters of America and is a juried member of Oil Painters of America and the Hudson Valley Art Association.Walton presents painting workshops in Vermont and Maine.
