Walton endows creative
writing fund at UA
University of Arkansas graduate Carolyn Walton of Fayetteville has given $250,000 to UA to establish the Carolyn Walton Endowed Fund in Creative Writing.This endowment means all future incoming poetry, fiction and translation students entering the university's master of fine arts programs in creative writing will receive a startup fund to help with first-semester expenses.UA's creative writing program was ranked 16 th nationally in 2001 by U.S. News Best Graduate Schools.The program offers intensive workshops, courses in poetics and fiction theory, and traditional and contemporary literature.Students also benefit by visits from guest writers.Walton took courses in the master of fine arts program while completing her master's degree in English literature.
Pipe organ program
for young pianists The Northwest Arkansas Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will sponsor a program Feb. 8 to introduce young pianists to the pipe organ.Musicians from 12 to 18 will have hands-on experience with some of the area's finest pipe organs.Morning activities will be followed by a pizza lunch and a short recital for family and friends.Registration is required, and the deadline is Dec. 15.
