    Al Pacino in the Godfather III spoke similar words, but they could easily apply to former Paradise Police Chief Paul Walters after Tuesday's town council meeting.

    Town Manager Chuck Rough said Walters will hold the position for the next two to three months but didn't speculate on who would hold the position after that time is up.

    3. When Paradise Police Chief Paul Walters announced his retirement early in April of 2002, the department knew it had big shoes to fill in finding his successor.

    Walters, 56 at the time of his retirement, spent a good 32 years in police work, chasing bad guys and making communities safer in general.

    He worked for the Paradise Police Department for 14 years before accepting the job as the department's top cop.

    He said the job of police chief is all consuming and even when he leaves the office, he always had to be on call, just in case.

    "It's just time," he said of his decision to retire.

    Though his official retirement date was in May, he was re-hired as interim chief until mid-August to give the department time to secure its budget for the next fiscal year.
