It's almost -- but not quite -- as believable as life , says Thomas C. Walter , national sales manager for Sound Advance Systems.
The more money spent , the more real the sound becomes.Walter notes that a professional stadium sound system might cost $8 per seat , a typical church system $75 per seat.Sound systems for live theater and musical performance centers start at $300 a seat and escalate rapidly.
Wow
...
To decide what should be in a home theater , Walter asks a customer , Where are you going to put your wow?.In other words , are you an audiophile or do you simply want to hear the music. But even with a simple home installation you can't just stick a speaker on the wall and expect satisfactory results.
Five surfaces in the typical home theater room have wires , he says , plus higher-than-usual power feeds and more outlets.Expect home theater systems to run from $65 to $650 per square foot over and above normal hard costs.
...
Location , location , location is critical to a home theater room , Walter adds.Wherever possible , isolate it from the rest of the house.Don't put it near bedrooms , he cautions , and recounts the sad tale of a parent driven crazy by sounds coming from a too-close theater.
Remember that glass is hostile to a home theater , both as a harsh reflective sound surface and as a light source. And don't place the theater in rooms facing south or west. You don't run out of light , Walter warns , you run out of dark..Indeed , making rooms dark enough to watch home theater can be a challenge.
Because so many owners already have televisions , Fields doesn't include one in package prices.
