As Professor Adrian Walter from Charles Darwin University puts it, "the traditional music is about eight rungs higher up the ladder than the popular music most of the bands are playing", so it's not just a cultural thing it's also about the intrinsic musical qualities inherent to the traditional forms which all comes back to the AAO's reasons for wanting to collaborate.
