Tree Walsh
Harm Reduction Coordinator
Born and raised in St. John's, Tree grew up in the downtown area of the city. Her interest in "helping" others started as a union representative while working at Canada Post and continued when she worked with the St. John's Status of Women Council at the Women's Centre in the early 1990s.
Tree Moved to Toronto in 1992 where she later completed the Human Service Counsellor Program at George Brown College.
Upon graduation she began working in the Addiction Case Management Program at Street Haven, one of the longest operating women's shelters in the country, located in Toronto's downtown core. While at Street Haven Tree worked with many homeless, marginally housed, street involved and otherwise "at risk" women, who were struggling with substance use and many other challenging issues.
Working with these women is where Tree learned how effective using a harm reduction approach is, in helping empower people to take important first steps to turn their lives around.
