Laois vice chairman Tony Walsh chipped in with an expression of fear that Laois could be returning to "the bad old days".

Last Monday night, Laois county treasurer Tony Walsh warned his fellow delegates that increased costs in training this season meant the board would have to raise €80,000 more than last year to meet the ever rising bills.

"We need €80,000 over and above what we brought in last year to break even with all the extra expenses in training county teams and coaching," Walsh told the meeting.

Meanwhile, Tony Walsh, who was Laois treasurer at the time, has admitted that he should have informed the executive about the deficit.

For lookers-on, it will be a fascinating process as Tony Walsh, the favourite and perceived by many as the choosen one, and Brian Allen, Dick's wing man as vice-chairman for those eight years, go head-to-head.
