Tony Walsh, European business development manager at Domino's IS Group, believes ,hybrid systems' will become popular in the next few years."At unit level, manufacturers will use Data Matrix to ensure all the data required for legal purposes is on the pack. Then at case and pallet level, I suspect there will be a hybrid system in which RFID is used in conjunction with Data Matrix coding," he says.

Tony Walsh, managing director, Walsh Colour Print, said, 'With run lengths going down and marketing budgets becoming tighter and tighter, we recognised that the time was right for us to invest in a digital press to help our customers stay competitive. Using our HP Indigo press 5500, we can now provide superior value to printers and end users.'

Walsh Colour Print's markets are split between Irish printers and design agencies, offering everything from full colour business cards to books and brochures, but the lion's share of its work comes from other Irish printers, who outsource jobs that they are unable to support.

'In the two months since installation, we have been very impressed by the high print quality of items using the HP Indigo press 5500. We have put a wide variety of jobs through it, but are experiencing particular demand for colour books, including manuals and local authority documents of roughly 200 pages,' said Walsh.

Walsh cited HP's presence and support of the Irish market as being very important, as well as HP's after sales service. The company was also impressed with the products' high print quality, reliability and potential re-sale value.

'Our next step is to grow the digital business and broaden awareness for the capability of the process,' said Walsh. 'Using the HP Indigo press 5500's ability to process personalisation and variable data, marketers and businesses in Ireland now have the technology to better target customers and further drive sales - it's very exciting.'

Walsh Colour Print was established in 1993, and today employs 90 people at its Castleisland premises. As a privately held company, the business is owned by Tony Walsh and his wife Patricia who is also the company's production director.
