Mr Walsh, who is chairman of the Mayfair security firm in Leamington, explained how the shield would be given to the young magician of the year.

He said this would be a fitting tribute to Mr Curtis who was secretary for Leamington Chamber of Trade and a member of the town's Christmas lights committee.

Mr Walsh said: "John was a keen magician and a special person. He was like 'Mr Leamington', everybody knew him. This is a way for people to remember him at this time every year."

It was snapped up by Mayfair Security chairman Tony Walsh, who shipped it to his Kenilworth home for son Adam, 16.

The avid fans attended an auction of items from the club's former Highfield Road ground last month.

A determined bidder bought the home dugout for £1,050.

But Mr Walsh swooped for the away shelter at £200 - and paid five times that amount to move it.

A crane had to be employed to lift the piece of footballing history over his fence to give it pride of place in the garden.

Adam, a Princethorpe College student with an impressive array of Sky Blues memorabilia, said: "When we first heard about the auction we joked about getting a dugout, but started talking about it more and more.

"It ended up turning into a serious plan."

Mr Walsh added: "We've been inundated with people wanting to come round and get their picture taken in the dugout.

Tony Walsh, Managing Director/Owner of Mayfair Security Services, 19 Coventry Road, Cubbington, Royal Leamington Spa commenced all aspects of security work in 1988 at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham.

During that time he and his staff carried out their duties in a very diligent and efficient manner and formed a most important part of our security arrangements. The duties included a wide range of security duties, including security cover for special events and concerts. During that time they specialized in back stage, pit area at stage, bootleggers, ticket touts, response squads and general supervision within the Arenas.

Tony Walsh also advised on security matters, and on one occasion was called as an expert witness to give evidence in relation to a difficult boxing event which was held at the NEC. Again, he proved to be a first class operator.
