  In the wake of the sudden dismissal of NEA regional director Michael Butera (reported last week and quickly confirmed ) comes another unexpected employer action - this time it's the Florida Education Association's (FEA) pending removal of Chief of Staff Aaron Wallace.

  Wallace has served as chief of staff since Florida's NEA and AFT affiliated unions merged into a single union in 2000. Before that he was the elected president of Florida Teaching Profession-NEA and one of the prominent voices in favor of the proposed national NEA-AFT merger in 1998. He also sits on the board of the NEA Foundation for the Improvement of Education.
  
  Contacted by EIA for this story, FEA released the following statement:
  
  "FEA President Andy Ford has made a recommendation to the Executive Cabinet to exercise the early cancellation provision in the contract of Chief of Staff Aaron Wallace. The Cabinet will act on the recommendation at its meeting on April 9. Mr. Wallace's employment contract permits such action to be taken at any time without the requirement of formal cause. The contract, which is being fully honored, specifies the benefits to which Mr. Wallace is entitled upon early cancellation."

  Aaron Wallace to Get South Carolina Executive Director Job
  
  The South Carolina Education Association, which has been booting executive directors under mysterious circumstances for years, came full circle and hired Aaron Wallace to fill the position, according to EIA sources. Earlier this year Wallace was mysteriously forced out of his position as chief of staff of the Florida Education Association.

  On March 31, EIA reported that the Florida Education Association was planning to terminate the contract of Chief of Staff Aaron Wallace . I can now report the official word from FEA that Wallace "has announced his retirement from the FEA to permit him to work on behalf of public education at the national level. FEA wishes Wallace "much success in his new endeavors" with no mention of why this step was taken or how this compromise was reached.

  Richardson High School Class of 1965 graduate Aaron Wallace , former president of the Florida Teaching Profession-National Education Association , has been selected as chief of staff for the Florida Education Association.
  
  Wallace , 53 , a resident of Tallahassee , served in the U.S. Air Force in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam era and earned the rank of senior non-commissioned officer.
  
  His military career included becoming chief of security police and supervising more than 1 , 000 enlisted personnel.
  
  Wallace , one of nine children , grew up in Lake City.He holds a bachelor's degree in social psychology , and a master's degree.
