    Mark Wade

Dr Mark Wade joined Shell in 1979 as a research biochemist in support of the Chemicals business. Since then he has served in a variety of posts, including Technical Graduate Recruitment manager for Shell International and Head of External Affairs, Communications and Issues Management for Shell Chemicals. In 1997 he moved to the Corporate Centre of Shell International as a founder member of the Sustainable Development Group. Mark relinquished his position as Head of Sustainable Development Policy, Strategy and Reporting early 2003 on moving to Shell Learning's Leadership Development group. He led the Sustainable Development Learning activity charged with bringing about a step change in sustainable development awareness, understanding and capacity in Shell people.

Until his recent retirement from Shell in April 2006 Mark was Shell's Liaison Delegate to the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and Chairman of the Business Network of the European Academy of Business in Society. He serves on the Advisory Boards of the student organisations AIESEC and OIKOS. Mark is also a non-executive Director of Sociedade Amigos de Iracambi a sustainable forestry and agricultural research station in Brasil. Mark is a regular contributor to conferences, seminars and publications on sustainable development

Mark offers a unique range of experiences and competencies from bringing sustainable development thinking into the mainstream of a major corporation. This groundbreaking work encompassed both the 'hard-wiring' (reporting, governance, systems and processes) and the 'soft-wiring' (winning the hearts and minds of leaders) to generate the 'will, thrill, skill' of sustainable development. He has been recognised internally and externally as a key player and an architect of Shell's journey from the outset. Mark is now available as a consultant to offer this range of experiences to other organizations set on embedding sustainable development into the way they do business.

Mark is married with two grown up children and enjoys sailing and good food.

As head of sustainability at Shell Mark Wade famously observed, we are moving from a 'trust me' world through 'tell me' and 'show me' to an 'involve me' world.
