Northwest-Shoals President James Wade said the circumstances were right for offering the class at Lexington because White was already in place to teach.
"It's a great benefit when the students already know their instructor," Wade said."It's not a profitable deal for us, but it's a good contribution we can make to K-12."
Wade admits that in the long run, the program works to the college's benefit when students chose Northwest-Shoals after high school.
"There's no doubt, it's a great recruiting tool," he said."Parents are seeing the value in it for sure."
Senior Adam Mitchell said his chemical engineering degree awaits him, and it's going to be a long process.
"I just thought taking this class for college credit would be a way to speed up college a little bit," he said.
