    (ISC)2® ("ISC-squared"), a nonprofit specializing in educating and certifying information security professionals throughout their careers, announced James R. Wade, CISSP-ISSAP, ISSMP, as the posthumous recipient of a 2007 Harold F. Tipton Award in recognition of his distinguished information security career.

    The (ISC)2 board of directors recognized Wade at the Computer Security Institute (CSI) Conference 2007 in Arlington, Va.Wade passed away from a long illness last week.

    Wade had more than 25 years of experience in information security, including several executive-level positions at high-profile organizations.Most recently, he served as executive director at Getronics' International Information Integrity Institute (I-4), a consortium of Fortune 100 and multinational companies that collaborate in security best practices.Previous positions included senior vice president and chief information security officer at KeyCorp, one of the nation's largest bank-based financial services companies, and vice president and chief security officer with the U.S. Federal Reserve System.

    A long-time member of the (ISC)2 board of directors, Wade held titles of president and chairman, serving most recently as board treasurer, and was instrumental in promoting (ISC)2's growth and stature.He freely donated his time to numerous other organizations, including serving as president for the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) and being named to the ISSA Hall of Fame in 2004.He also served as chairman of the computer security committee for the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) International, and was a member of the curriculum advisory committee for the College of Law Enforcement at Eastern Kentucky University.He also served as an editorial advisor to a major information security publication.

    In addition to his career in the corporate world, Wade served in the U.S. Army as a military intelligence special agent and as a security architect for the U.S. Marine Corps tactical command and control systems following the 1990 Gulf War.

    James Wade has left his position as CSO of the Federal Reserve to accept the job of Chief Information Security Officer at KeyCorp, a Cleveland-based financial services company.Wade's responsibilities include oversight of information security strategies, policies and standards across the $83 billion company.

    Prior to his work at the Federal Reserve, Wade served as director of enterprise information security and business continuity for VErizon Wireless.He is a member of the U.S. Computer Ssytems Security and Privacy Board, the ASIS International Safeguarding Proprietary Information Council and is president and CEO of the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC2).He holds a CISSP and is a certified computer security inspector (CCSI).
