Vorkoper, MSSW, explored suicide from a unique perspective, focusing on the experience of the suicidal person and viewing the family as the context for the suicide. Key issues were explored, including characteristics of a family with a suicidal member and steps in crisis intervention. A noted suicidology expert, Mr. Vorkoper is past clinical director of the Suicide Prevention Center of Dallas (now the Suicide and Crisis Center) and serves on the steering committee that is creating a suicide prevention plan for the state of Texas.

Vorkoper, LCSW, LPC, LMST, is a counselor in Private Practice in Dallas, Texas.He is a Certified Gambling Counselor and a Supervisor for the National Council on Problem Gambling.He served as clinical consultant to the Texas Council on Problem and CompulsiveGambling (1992-2000) and trains mental health professionals for certification.He has a background in treating suicidal persons and the survivors of suicide.He was Director of the Suicide Prevention Center of Dallas, and served as Chair of the Public Information Committee of the American Association of Suicidology (AAS).He has made frequent presentations at the national meetings of the AAS and conducted workshops on the subjects of suicide across the country.He has published chapters in two books on this subject.He is a member of the Task Force for Clinical Survivors of Suicide, developing strategies to serve helping professionals who are impacted by suicide.He served on the Steering Committee to create a Suicide Prevention Plan for the state of Texas and is co-chair of the committee to involve stakeholders and the public in the development of a Texas Network of Suicide Prevention Networks.He serves as a mental health volunteer for the Red Cross Disaster Services in Dallas and has been active as a certified group psychotherapist.
