Rev. Peter Vorkink

Reverend Peter Vorkink: Peter has been teaching at Phillips Exeter Academy for over thirty (30) years.Three of these years were spent on sabbatical in British and Japanese international schools.Peter was associated with the founding of an international summer program similar to the Summer Academy at Cape Town (the Toin Japanese Summer Homestay Program, which took students from Exeter, Andover, St. Paul's, and other New England independent schools to Japan during the summer.Peter was the American Representative for this program for almost a dozen years, and spent a number of summers in Asia in conjunction with this program.) Peter has spent some time in Cape Town in the summer of 2003.Between husband and wife, Peter and Gaye have travelled to almost one hundred countries around the globe.Peter is also experienced in many spheres of educational administration.He was Department Chairman of the Religion Department at Phillips Exeter Academy, and is currently a full-time Instructor in Religion at Phillips Exeter.More recently, Peter has done most of his teaching in the areas of western philosophy, religion and literature, applied social ethics, and Asian religions/philosophies (Zen Buddhism and Tibetan Buddhism).Peter has also lived in a school dormitory with his family for seventeen years, and has coached various sports - varsity girls' ice hockey for four years, intramural soccer, basketball and softball.Peter has a B.A. in Religious Studies from Yale University, a BD in Theology from Union Theological Seminary, and an MA in systematic theology from Harvard University.Peter serves as the USA representative for the Summer Academy at Cape Town, and will teach Human and Physical Geography of Africa in Session One.
