"I don't know why it would apply to women and not men," said Peter Vivenzio, owner of Peter's Male Apparel in downtown Brunswick.
...
Men also should not wear hats indoors, Vivenzio said.
"You can say time marches on and this is the year of the so-and-so and we don't adhere to old adages and things like that, but the truth of the matter is for a man to be inside with his head covered is a sign of disrespect. It is and always has been," Vivenzio said.
"Most people who do it simply don't know better, but it's still proper for a man to uncover his head when he goes inside at home, a business or whatever."
Hats that are part of a uniform, particularly a military uniform, are possible exceptions, Vivenzio said.
