Commenting on the allocation, BBSRC interim Chief Executive Steve Visscher said that it was an excellent outcome for UK bioscience, enabling the BBSRC to drive forward the crucial bioscience component of interdisciplinary research in national priority areas, including: bioenergy, combating disease threats and threats to food security from climate change, lifelong health in ageing populations, global security and nanotechnology.

Mr Visscher said that BBSRC will be able to build on its previous investment in key areas such as systems biology research, whilst maintaining funding for responsive mode grants.
