She found an array of barriers.Many women don't aspire to the top job, and others get into the field later, after their children are raised.And it's a cultural thing in the South where men are leaders and women are supporters. Women aren't as mobile as men."As nurturers, women stay to look after aging parents." Violette comes from a family of educators.Both of her sisters are teachers. At
Clinton , Violette will head a system with three schools and about 900 students.She oversees 876 at Powell.But there she will have a principal in each school and a staff of 10 at the central office.
