An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Vink then was assigned to High Jump Task Force 68 under Rear Admiral Richard Byrd.

Mr. Vink joined the sales force at Blue Ridge Fruit Exchange until he was recalled to active duty with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.He was assigned to Atlantic Service Force out of Norfolk, Va.He was release to inactive duty in 1953.He was a past reserve member of Martinsburg Air National Guard and also 1007th Light Equipment Maintenance Co. of Hagerstown, Md.He retired after 30 years of Army, Navy and Air Force Reserve service.
He then was employed by Olin Chemical Corp of Baltimore, Md., and assigned the southeastern Pennsylvania territory.He later transferred to assistant sales manager of the northeastern U.S., with headquarters in Baltimore.While a resident of Baltimore, he was a charter member and trustee of Northminister United Presbyterian Church of Reisterstown, Md.He moved to Mercersburg in 1962 and became sales manager of Blue Ridge Fruit Exchange until taken over by Agway Inc.He later operated as a consultant to the fruit growers of the four-state area.

Mr. Vink, along with his three sons, were Eagle Scouts, he helped organize and gave name to Mercersburg Area Youth Organization (MAYO), he was a former Mercersburg Borough tax collector and Republican committee person.
Surviving are his wife, Martha "Mickey" McKee Vink, whom he married in 1952; three sons, Gordon D. Jr. "Chip" (husband of Deborah) Vink of Mercersburg, Gregory R. (husband of Charlotte) Vink and Gary G. (husband of Robin) Vink, both of Chambersburg; a sister, Anna Vink Harford of Waynesboro; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandchild and a sister.
