    The Workshop was started on April 11, 2005 with the Welcome Speech of Dr. L. R. Verma, Vice Chancellor , Himachal Pradesh University. He welcomed the GLOBE training team as well as the participants from all over the country and around the world. He assured all of them to provide full corporation and support from Himachal Pradesh University. He also assured that the stay of both participants and the Trainers would be made comfortable in every possible manner.

    Followed by the welcome address, Mr. R. Mehta, Advisor , Ministry of Environment and Forests, Govt of India and the Country Coordinator, GLOBE-India briefed the participants and the guests about the Objectives of the Workshop. While giving the introduction of the workshop, he told that the main aim of the workshop is to provide hands-on experience to the participants (teachers and research scientists). Revealing that 11 trainers and around 50 participants from all over the world were participating in the workshop, he said the workshop serves the twin purpose of " teaching the trainees" and " helping the society" as a whole in the sphere of environment.

    It was brought to notice that the support provided by Dr. L. R. Verma and the volunteers of Himachal Pradesh University has proved immense valuable for the workshop. He thanked Hon'ble Governor Shri V. S. Kokje for spending his valuable time for inaugurating the workshop and also for sharing his views and concerns regarding environmental protection and conservation. He extended his gratitude to Dr. Desh Bandhu for choosing Himachal Pradesh as the Venue of the workshop. He also thanked all the volunteers from Indian Institute of Himalayan Studies and Indian Environmental Society and others who were directly or indirectly associated with the workshop.
