    BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Verma has over twenty-eight years of broad base experience in technology, manufacturing, product marketing, benchmarking, competitive analysis and project/program management in the Electronics Industry, including five years at SEMATECH. He has held both technical and administrative management positions in the defense and private sectors. He has traveled extensively in the U.S. His business visits have included visits to Germany, Japan and India.

His career began as a Chief Metallurgist and Technical Director at the Sel-Rex Company in sunny Southern California. He worked with precious metal powders and electronic inks, and had the opportunity to set up a self sustaining Analytical Laboratory. From California he went to crispy cold New Jersey to work for Engelhard Industries. Initially he worked as a Technology Manger, responsible for the Product/Technology Development and Transfer. Latter as Laboratories Manager, he had the opportunity to set up Product Development, Product Q/A and Testing, Customer Service and Electrical Measurement Laboratories for the division. His next move was to Tucson, Arizona, and its 106-degree mornings. He remembers his 3-year old son saying, "I want to go back to New York and I am never coming back. It is too hot here".

At Hughes Aircraft Company in Tucson, he was responsible for the technical and administrative management of a department, Proof of Design and Prototype Hybrids Fabrication. Hybrids are devices manufactured by printing electronic circuits on ceramic substrates using electronic inks. Electronic components, such as capacitors, resistors, semiconductor IC chips, and IC chip carrier packages are mounted on the top using various technologies. His next stop once again was at Southern California, before ending up in Austin, Texas, to work for SEMATECH, a consortium of semiconductor manufacturing companies. His work at SEMATECH included benchmarking word-wide semiconductor manufacturing factories and competitive analysis to assist SEMATECH in its strategic planning and roadmap development, and development of a cost model for the Factory Cost Analysis.

At present, Dr. Verma manages his consulting company, BCA International. It offers Strategic Management Tools, benchmarking, competitive analysis and outsourcing, and services for use in the development and management of strategic business/technology alliances, project/program management, including offshore outsourcing projects, and supplier selection and evaluation. Locally, he is involved in various organizations and their international activities. In addition to managing his consulting company, he has been teaching graduate business courses, and mentoring faculty for the University of Phoenix. He is also teaching management courses and assisting in the development of its doctoral program. For the five years or so, he has been teaching workshops and short courses on Benchmarking and Competitive Analysis.

Dr. Verma has M. Tech (master of technology) degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Ceramic Science from SUNY, College of Ceramics at Alfred University. He has published on variety of diverse subjects, such as Outsourcing as a Strategic Tool, Outsourcing Software Development, Advanced Packages for VLSI and VHSIC Chips, and Electronic Properties of Glasses. He is a member of the Project Management Institute and International Economic Development Council. In addition to serving on the Mayor's Task Force on International Infrastructure Development and Austin Steering Committee of the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI), he is affiliated with several national and international organizations, International Greater Austin Coalition (IGAC), International Center of Austin (ICA), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), International Microelectronics and Packaging Society and Educational Foundation (IMAPS), Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA), Austin Technology Council (ATC), and two-term President of Central Texas Electronics Association (CTEA).

Dr. Verma and his wife live in Austin, Texas. Their son is a graduate of rice University and their daughter is junior at the college. He enjoys saying that his wife is a school teacher and he is trying to follow her footsteps. His hobbies include reading, movies, playing with stocks a little, and teaching. He likes to say that teaching for him is a natural way to give something back and continue the learning process for myself.
