TONY VALOR
...
Y@HU - This time my interview is with TONY VALOR - an American discotheque pioneer, living legend, who remembers what was interesting in the early and late '70s disco music.
This is historic ... because it is the first interview every conducted by a polish deejay writer for the Polish and International readers.
Disco producer Tony Valor scored significant club hits with several different groups during the late '70s and early '80s, and also released records under his own name.
...
Valor subsequently turned his attention to other groups, landing a hit with Soccer ("Come and Get It On") and masterminding the career of Fantasy, which topped the disco charts with "You're Too Late" in 1981.Tony Valor is still very active in the dance music business. He successfully runs TVI Records and Filmworks. His latest release, "Fantasy" is on Billboard Magazine's top dance single sales and Hot 100 single sales charts.
Touch
Produced by disco specialist Tony Valor and Tom Moulton, Touch's 1976 album yielded two classic disco records, both remixed and pressed onto 12" by Tom Moulton and Jose Rodriguez.
...
Produced and written by the great Tony Valor, "Do those little things" was the first 12" on Brunswick and was mixed by Tom Moulton and mastered by Jose Rodriguez.
...
From his one Paula album, Tony Valor released several disco singles over a period of years.
...
Tony also wrote for several other disco groups in the 1970's, including
...
Tony Valor (Paula LP, 1978)
Gotta get it (Brunswick, 1977) Ma mo ah (Brunswick, 1977) Love has come my way (Paula, 1978)Midnight Affair (Paula, 1980)
Tony Valor is an honorary member of the Disco DJ Hall of Fame.
Y@HU - when and where did it really start your discolife / story ?
TONY - My singing career started in the late 50's with the doo-wop groups.
...
TONY - To be innovative.
...
TONY - I would say The Loft and Paradise Garage were my most favorite, then Funhouse in New York and Limelight in Canada.
Y@HU - Did you ever met (who) any of the pioneer Deejays ?
TONY - I met them all over the years. Most of them were in record pools and some are still around.
Y@HU - Do you plan write an autobiography ?
TONY - Now that you mention it, I will think about it.
Y@HU - Can you tell anything about the disco music artists (names) you know or met at '70 ?
TONY - There were so many and everybody was like a big family; Donna Sommer, Barry White, Kool & The Gang, Sylvester.
...
TONY - DJ's were tough back then. They created their own breaks, not that it's not done today, but its easy to find mixes with breaks in them.
Y@HU - What do you think of the Disco era now ?
TONY - It's still the same.We still have reporting jocks, record pools, and clubs.Nothing has really changed, except the name.
Y@HU - Do you keep / hold any contact with the other Disco artists / '70 mega stars (can you mention any names) with whom you've become close friends maybe ?
TONY - Most of my friends from that time are gone, either passed on or retired, but I still speak with Henry Stone, Bo Crane, and Tom Moulton.
...
TONY - They create from what we have done in the past and I like it.
...
TONY - I have my own record and film company and I still produce acts, having charted records.I travel to Europe quite often for the business and have product released all over the world.
Y@HU - What music do you prefer old - '70 disco / black disco sound or present times Dance music sound ?
TONY - I love it all.To me music is music.I don't like foul language in records, but, I guess, there's a market.
Y@HU - No doubt for me that black artists created late '70 disco music, disco history based on soul and R&B - what is your point of view ?
TONY - No!Actually is was a combination of Pop and early doo-wop acts.
Y@HU - Do you like techno / house music - which uses old tracks, mixes, samples, new beat etc. and then call it new BUT we know it's piece of shit if no because serious '70 music was used they can remix because they simply do not know how this music was created or recorded ?
TONY - Yes!I like the old tracks being used.Today, it is so much easier to make records using Pro-Tools, CU Base, Digital Pre-Former, and, of course samples, but the combo of yesterday's music and today's techniques is really entertaining.
Y@HU - What projects are you working on now ?
TONY - I still produce Fantasy. In fact, it has been four months that their record, "Again," has been on the top Dance sales chart.
Y@HU - What more do you want to tell to the polish and international readers ?
TONY - Music is an international language and no matter what the language is, if it is good music, you can feel the spirit of it.God Bless!
