The College will also recognize Norma Valle-Ferrer, SMWC class of 1969, with a Distinguished Alumna Award.The Distinguished Alumna Award is conferred by the College to recognize superior achievement by her graduates.This award both honors the recipient and celebrates the prestige her accomplishments bring to this College.
Valle-Ferrer, a well-known Puerto Rican journalist and writer, is currently serving as a professor at the School of Communications, University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus.She is also the producer and conductor of a weekly program at Cadena Radio Universidad de Puerto Rico, WRTU-FM; publishes a monthly column on the media in Diálogo, an academic newspaper; has published four books; and is a frequent contributor to several newspapers and magazines in Puerto Rico and the United States.
Valle-Ferrer, who obtained a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from SMWC, holds a Ph.D. in history from the Centro de Estudios Avanzados de Puerto Rico y el Caribe (Center for Advanced Studies on Puerto Rico and the Caribbean).
