Tom Valicenti - Owner/Broker
...
The road to Steamboat Springs for Tom Valicenti has been a love affair dating back to 1974.On a spring cross country road trip with a friend, he knew that someday he would call the Yampa Valley "home".
Tom was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After graduating with a Bachelor's of Arts degree from Kent State University in 1972, he accepted a career opportunity with the May Department Stores, and became a Menswear Buyer for Kaufmann's in Pittsburgh. After three successful years in retail, Tom knew he was born to be in sales.Rolfs Leather Products, from West Bend, Wisconsin, hired Tom as an Account Executive for the Pennsylvania territory.Six years later, Tom still longed to move West.Rolfs granted his wish and transferred him to Phoenix, Arizona to develop that market. There he met his wife, Marci, a Buyer for the J.C. Penney Company, and needless to say, she bought his entire line.
While vacationing in Steamboat in the mid-late 1980's, Tom and Marci began investing here, setting a goal to be living here within five years.Their investments proved to be good ones; and in 1991 they packed up their 6 month old son Zach, two dogs and a cat, and headed to the Yampa Valley. With no jobs, yet a positive attitude, they embarked on a new life with the determination to succeed. Two weeks after their arrival, Tom left for Denver to get his real estate license, and Marci waited tables at Mattie Silks Restaurant, with her tips feeding the family.
The real estate field came easily for Tom, as his father and brother had owned a large real estate agency in Pittsburgh for many years.Tom still had another dream he wanted to live.Having had a grandfather who built custom stone homes in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh, Tom began Valicenti Custom Homes. His construction company was born in 1992 out of need for a larger home for the Valicenti family and the desire to build one very custom and special spec home per year.He has now completed 13 custom homes in Steamboat's finest subdivision.Like his grandfather, he has also built a landmark; his being the first speculative home of a $3,800,000 caliber, located in Priest Creek Ranch. With the size, details and craftsmanship involved in that estate, it is no wonder that this home was two years in the making.
Tom and Mitch Clementson became owners of Steamboat Real Estate, Inc. in 1993.
