Valenzuela receives Bar-SR-Bar Award for employee excellence

ALPINE, TEXAS - Amy Valenzuela, a secretary in the Sul Ross State University Biology Department, has received the Bar-SR-Bar Award for Employee Excellence.
The honor, which recognizes distinguished service to the university, includes a plaque and a monetary award.

Valenzuela has worked at Sul Ross since 1999, first in the Cashiers Office and since 2002 in the Biology Department.She was nominated for the award by the entire biology faculty and staff.
"Amy is a model secretary," the nomination stated."She works competently, efficiently and cheerfully in every task that comes her way.
"Amy provides outstanding service to students, staff and faculty," the nomination continued."She manages a chaotic workload efficiently.Her personality and efficiency improve the morale of all the people that rely on her.It is a privilege to work with Amy.She truly cares about the mission of the Biology Department."
As far as Valenzuela is concerned, the feeling is mutual.
"I look forward to coming to the office every day and working with the faculty and staff," she said."They bring so much enthusiasm to the Biology Department.
"I consider it an honor to work with such interesting and caring people," she added."I also enjoy meeting and assisting the students.They make my job fun and keep it exciting!"
Valenzuela, a Fort Davis native, graduated from Fort Davis High School and received a B.A. degree from Sul Ross in 2004.

In her spare time, Valenzuela enjoys fishing, RVing and spending time with her family.
