Harold "Butch" Valentine, Dover's police chief, said officers in other states have told him that stun guns work.He said Tasers might be an intermediate level of force to be used before hitting someone with a baton but after the use of pepper spray. If stun guns are allowed, he said officers probably would carry them along with their guns. But he also said he wouldn't expect an officer to consider using a stun gun when faced with immediate danger that calls for the use of a gun.

"If your or someone else's life is in danger, you need to employ deadly force," Valentine said.
