(June 16, 2003 - San Francisco, CA) - Ernest Valente, PhD, joined CMRI as Director of Scientific Affairs, leading a team of biostatisticians, epidemiologists, and data analysts.CMRI recently created the Department of Scientific Affairs to further strengthen its analytic capabilities.

Dr. Valente has had an extensive background in quality measurement and reporting.He has published multiple articles on healthcare quality, medical education, health services research methods, and other healthcare issues.

Prior to joining CMRI, Dr. Valente was the Senior Manager for Provider Quality Projects at the Pacific Business Group on Health (PBGH), where he focused on quality measurement and reporting initiatives at the individual physician and hospital levels.Dr. Valente has also previously served as the Director of Statistical Analysis at NCQA.He was the primary author of NCQA's State of Managed Care Quality 2001 report.

Dr. Valente holds a PhD in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Ernie Valente joined PBGH as Senior Manager of Quality Projects in the Quality Measurement and Improvement department in July 2002.In his position Dr. Valente focuses on quality measurement and reporting initiatives at the individual physician and hospital levels.

Dr. Valente brings an extensive background in quality measurement and reporting to PBGH.He has had considerable experience in quality "report card" development, statistical methods, survey design and data warehousing.He has also authored or co-authored several research papers about health care quality, medical education and other health care issues.

Prior to joining PBGH, Dr. Valente served as Director of Analysis at NCQA.While at NCQA, he performed extensive statistical analysis of national HEDIS results, developed automated procedures for measure development analyses and health plan report card analyses and managed several research projects.He was the primary author of NCQA's State of Managed Care Quality 2001 report and developed an interactive Web version.Dr. Valente has also held positions at the Association of American Medical Colleges and at Vanderbilt University.

Dr. Valente holds Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Arts degrees in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.A native of the Bay Area, he earned his B.A. at San Francisco State University.
