The special recognition took NEWW attendees by surprise. ,We went to this award banquet as we have many times in the past, and right in the middle of the ceremony they suddenly had a special presentation that we were not aware was going to happen,, says NEWW President David L. Urquhart, who also serves as director of the Association of Independent Corrugated Converters (AICC) Northeast Region.
From Eight to Two,
NEWW has done business with Gillette since the 1970s.At that time, Gillette worked with about eight corrugated box suppliers, Urquhart says.He remembers when NEWW turned down an opportunity for more Gillette business out of fear the workload would be too overwhelming. ,The years went by and business practices changed and as time evolved we ended up with more and more of this Gillette business, I guess because we did a good job satisfying them,, he says. ,So much so that by the mid-1990s there were only two [corrugated] suppliers of Gillette that we were aware of., Today NEWW supplies almost all corrugated products used by Gillette. ,It,s close to being a singe-source arrangement,, Urquhart says.
...
Urquhart says the company,s unscathed track record is a product of NEWW,s employees, skill and respect for Gillette and all customers. ,We realize how important this account is,, he says. ,And these people are real craftsmen, they,re New England craftsmen and they just do great work.
