Mark R. Urbassik has more than 30 years of experience in the environmental regulatory field and is a key provider of environmental science, engineering, remediation, program management, and project management services related to environmental compliance and soil and groundwater environmental issues.
His broad base of technical environmental experience includes detailed knowledge of regulatory mechanisms used by federal, state, and local governmental agencies.
He has served as a senior environmental staff advisor to a major coal tar chemicals and treated wood products manufacturer, has prepared numerous state and local air permit applications, and has supervised the preparation of a federal air permit application for a major modification to an organic chemical plant in Illinois.
Mr. Urbassik's involvement with solid waste regulations dates back to 1978 on the state level, and began in 1980 on the federal level with the issuance of the RCRA regulations.
He has supervised the preparation of more than 30 federal hazardous waste permit applications.
Mr. Urbassik's solid waste experience also includes responsibility for general management of the Superfund sites for a major organic chemical manufacturer.
He has extensive experience with brownfield redevelopment, including projects funded by the United States Environmental Protection Agency's Brownfields Program and state Voluntary Action Programs.
He is currently serving, as he has since 1996, as an appointed member of Pennsylvania's Cleanup Standards Scientific Advisory Board, which advises Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection management of technical ramifications associated with their actions under Pennsylvania's Land Recycling Program.
He has developed project strategies and approaches for numerous brownfield projects, including former industrial locations seeking to meet risk-based standards and implementing institutional controls, and sites within specifically-designated economic recovery zones.
One of his projects, the re-start of a coke plant in southwestern Pennsylvania, was nominated and became a finalist for the Phoenix Award, a national award for brownfield redevelopment.
As a Registered Brownfield Professional, Mr. Urbassik provides the most currently available knowledge to clients interested in environmental services associated with land recycling projects.
