Ruth is the dance captain of the Burlington Footnotes, an enthusiastic troupe of senior dance performers who specialize in various styles.Since its inception in 2000, the Footnotes have grown from six to over 100 members.The group entertains at hospitals, senior residences, conventions and variety shows throughout the year.

As Burlington's ambassadors, this group has performed twice in Itabashi, Japan.While in Japan, Ruth has shown her talents to organize, lead, help and entertain in any situation.As dance captain, she has taken new members under her wing and made them feel accepted within the group.She is extremely talented: she can sing, dance, and play the banjo and guitar.

She is also a member of a senior quartet called Side-by-Side, who entertain shut-ins and seniors in the community.Ruth is also the "heart and soul" of the group the Singing Strummers.She makes sure that hundreds of residents in nursing homes and retirement residences get to enjoy the group's engaging entertainment.

Three members of the Burlington Footnotes Senior Performance Troupe have won this annual award: Rosemarie Maurice in 2000, Denise McKay in 2005 and Ruth Urbasik in 2007.

In 2007, Ruth Urbasik became the Footnotes third recipient of the award. Ruth had started performing, singing and dancing at the age of four. She has entertained in hospitals, nursing and senior residences, for service groups and in various theatres in southern Ontario for over 60 years.

She was one of the founding members of the earliest version of the Burlington Footnotes Company. Ruth is currently Chairman of Community Service Shows for the Burlington Footnotes and organizes on average 10 shows a year.

In 2007 alone, she has performed at various venues in over 30 shows with three different groups: Side By Side (a 4 piece band), The Singing Strummers (guitar, banjo and vocalists) and the Burlington Footnotes Senior Performing Troupe (where she also teaches two classes).

Under Ruth Urbasik's direction, a select cast of 26 performers put their time and talents into entertaining the volunteers.
