Elisheva S. Urbas is this year's recipient of the Vision in Leadership Award in recognition of her tireless commitment to Schechter Manhattan as the immediate-past president of the board of trustees.During her five-year term as board president, Elisheva championed numerous important initiatives that have helped strengthen the school's focus on providing individual attention to students and their families, communication, parent involvement and marketing. Elisheva's presence has been felt in every important development and innovation during her term as president including the opening of a middle school, increasing the school's enrollment by over 50% and placing its first graduates in the finest high schools in New York City.Elisheva and her husband, David Morris, have three daughters, all Schechter Manhattan students.

"I would love to see much greater consciousness in New York philanthropic and organizational circles, including federation, that if federation doesn't see itself in a position to support day schools, then philanthropists need to give directly to schools," said Elisheva Urbas, president of the Solomon Schechter School of Manhattan.

"Students are not arm-twisted to do this," says Elisheva Urbas, school president and mother of three students, regarding the prayer and Jewish studies components.
