This year's production, written by Don Urbanus, a nursery owner, focuses on the Hopper family, which is in danger of losing its frog farm because of Internal Revenue Service problems.
Last year, the farm was saved when the hero hit it big at bingo at the Jackson Rancheria.Urbanus, who wouldn't give away the ending to this year's thriller, had never penned a play before this one.
I like comedy, and things with little twists and turns, said Urbanus, who belongs to a writing group known as Writers Unlimited. This was right up my alley..
Sue Smith, whose parents met on the stage and who has been involved in community theater for nearly 50 years, is in her third year as director.
Smith said the group goes the melodrama route because it's the easiest thing to put together..
Most true professional actors don't want any part of it unless it's their specialty, she said. But this has been a wonderful thing for Valley Springs. It shows the community can really come across with something creative and something that shows real unity..
