James C. Tsai , M. D

Dr. James C. Tsai earned his medical degree ( M.D. ) at Stanford University School of Medicine in 1989.He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Southern California/Poheny Eye Institute in 1993.Dr. Tsai completed a Fellowship in Glaucoma at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute ( Miami , FL ) , completing the training in 1995.He was certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1995.

Dr. Tsai is a faculty member at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine ( VUMC ) , Department of Ophthalmology.In addition , he currently serves as the Ophthalmology Resident Training Director under Dr. Denis M. O'Day , Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology , VUMC.

Dr. Tsai is a member of the Tennessee Academy of Ophthalmology ( TAO ) , the American Academy of Ophthalmology ( AAO ) , the American Medical Association ( AMA ) , the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery ( ASCRS ) , and the Nashville/Davidson County Academy of Medicine.

Dr. Tsai is on the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Academy of Ophthalmology ( TAO ).He was just named as one of 18 ophthalmologists across the country to be included in the American Academy of Ophthalmology's 2001 Leadership Program.This program identifies leaders and potential leaders in the various state ophthalmic associations and provides one year of training in all aspects of leadership.

Dr. Tsai is the Medical Director for a new program , scheduled in February 2001 , which will prepare resident ophthalmologist for practice once they leave training.
