Trueheart is president and chief executive officer of the Pittsburgh Foundation, which since 1945 has worked to improve the quality of life in its region by addressing community issues, promoting charitable giving, and connecting donors to critical needs.Dr. Trueheart has had a richly varied career with nonprofit organizations, including work at several major universities.After many years at the University of Connecticut, including as a Dean, he moved to Harvard University, where he was associate secretary of the university and assistant dean and director of the Master in Public Administration program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government.He then moved to Bryant College in Rhode Island, serving as executive vice-president before becoming the school's first African-American president.Immediately before his current position, he served as president of Reading Is Fundamental, Inc.Dr. Trueheart has consulted with the National Park Service, the Ford Foundation, the Lilly Endowment, and the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation.He has extensive experience on the boards of local and national nonprofits: he is chair of Independent Sector, and he was previously chair of the Rhode Island Independent Higher Education Association, vice chair of the National Council of Presidents for the Association of Governing Boards, and a director of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.He earned his B.A. from the University of Connecticut, his M.P.A. from the John F.
