Steve Truebner, former campaign manager for Republican Lionel Rivera's failed 2006 bid for the 5th Congressional District, is running the campaign's and the party's get-out-the-vote effort.

Steve Truebner, Rivera's campaign manager, said the Colorado Springs mayor has said from the beginning he would use the petition process.

"We are committed to the Republican voters that signed our petition, not another campaign's strategy," Truebner said.

Apparently - and frustratingly - it's true, campaign manager Steve Truebner said.

The letter was sent third-class mail April 20 by a Virginia-based consulting company, and it just got to some mailboxes Tuesday.Truebner said the campaign will not use thirdclass postage again.

"I hope my Mother's Day card gets quicker delivery than our campaign mail," he said.

Rivera and Truebner pointed out Wednesday, though, that the statement stands, as Rivera remains the only former officer specifically from the Army in the race.
