This week, GVH Anatomy features a woman known throughout Seguin - Margo Trost. For over 56 years, Margo has dedicated herself to helping others here in Seguin. Her secret, she says, "is to keep busy and I certainly do."

Margo Trost grew up in Indiana. She graduated from high school and went on to Nursing School to receive her RN license.Margo moved to California and joined the Navy. She admitted that she'd intended to be a career nurse in the Navy, but when she was transferred to Corpus Christi she met Rudy Trost, the love of her life. The two were married and moved to Seguin in March of 1946.

As a surgical nurse, Margo began working at the Seguin Hospital, which had once been on Weinert Street. For some 15 years she worked at the hospital, caring for her patients.During her years at Seguin Hospital, Margo and her husband had a daughter, Annette, and a son, Denis.

The opportunity to work with Seguin Independent School District (SISD) came available and Margo then began her eight year career as a school nurse. She said she didn't mind leaving the hospital because Betty Ann Matthies had just came on board and she knew they would be taken care of.

In 1974, Margo had the chance to teach high school students. She took classes at SWT in San Marcos and began teaching Health Occupations to the high school students. One of her success stories she says is Dr. Castilleja."He was in my Career Orientation class as a High School Junior. His career in health started from there."In her second year of teaching, the Health Occupation Program at SHS joined the National Program, Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA).Today, the HOSA and Health Careers Programs at Seguin High School are still running strong.Margo says, "I look at the students here at GVH who are in the program and I see the fruits of my labor."

After 21 years at SISD she retired and today is still as busy as ever. She has been involved with many national and local health organizations, such as American Cancer Society and American Lung Association.

She is a Pink Lady in the GVH Auxiliary and works in the GVH Gift Shop.Kelly Schievelbein, Volunteer Services Director at GVH, says, "Margo is just a shining person, she had helped the Auxiliary in so many ways. She always is recruiting more volunteers. It is a joy to work with her."

Margo is also Chair of the GVH Foundation Board.Nancy Berry, Foundation President, says, "She is a dependable, caring, and encouraging woman.Margo is always there and ready to help. She will always find a solution to a problem and never will give up."

As if she doesn't keep busy enough, Margo works at the Silver Center here in Seguin. She says she is always willing to do her share. With a devoted husband, two children, and four grandchildren, Margo revealed that her greatest accomplishment is her family.

Margo says, "Seeing what I've done in my life gives me the greatest satisfaction."Her motto has always been, "get busy and make it happen."Margo Trost lives by those words.Today, at 80 years of age, she is still "keeping busy."Margo Trost is much to admire and today we salute her.
