Trosper takes job at Holmes

David Trosper spent 12 years as an assistant football coach before he applied for a head coaching position.

As it turned out, he got the first job he pursued.Trosper, 33, of Florence, was named head football coach at Holmes on Tuesday.

"Some guys rush into getting their first head coaching job," he said."I feel like the more years you get as an assistant coach learning both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball is experience that'll help you in the long run."

Trosper, a Boone County High School graduate, was a college assistant coach for 11 years.After a three-year stint at Centre College, he spent eight years at Morehead State University.

He returned to Northern Kentucky last year to join the football coaching staff at Holmes.When Mike Farley resigned as head coach of the Bulldogs last month, Trosper applied for the job and got it.

"It just so happened I was in the right place at the right time," Trosper said.

The team Farley is turning over to Trosper has six offensive and two defensive starters returning from last year when the Bulldogs finished 3-8.

"We'll have to create a little more of a run-oriented offense than we had with Brandent in the past," Trosper said.

Trosper will be returning to his alma mater when Holmes plays at Boone County.He's also looking forward to games against Ryle coach Bryson Warner and Scott coach R.J. Riegler, who played for former Boone County coach Owen Hauck.

"It goes to show what takes place when you play under coach Hauck," Trosper said.
