Since the 1996 debut of GSU Village, which can house up to 2,000 undergraduate students at the corner of Centennial Olympic Park Drive and North Avenue, GSU has seen its average student age drop from 28 to 23, including many more traditional-age freshmen, said Andrea Trinklein, GSU's director of student housing.
Enrollment overall has risen for the past five years, to approximately 27,500.
Still growing
When GSU started construction on the University Lofts at 135 Edgewood Ave., which opened last fall and contain 231 apartments that can house 460 residents, the intent had been to provide a close-to-campus living alternative for graduate students.
However, the university quickly adapted its marketing campaign to undergraduates, devoting the entire first two floors to academic honors scholarship freshmen, and the Lofts are completely leased for this fall, Trinklein said.
"Many graduate students were already situated in housing with their spouse and moving to campus was not desirable or an option," she said.
