Hoping to fill the position by July 1, 2004, the Lakeland institution posted the job announcement late last week in The Chronicle of Higher Education, said Robert Trinkle, chairman of the Presidential Search and Transition Committee.
In late October, the committee will begin to pare down the application pool and then interview candidates in December and January.Trinkle said the committee hopes to find the next president by February.
About 20 people already have applied for the position, Trinkle said.
FSC is looking for someone with a doctorate, senior management experience and fund-raising success. The ideal candidate would be a practicing Christian with an academic background, according to the college's presidential search prospectus.
"We seek a person who integrates well with the exciting history and traditions of this well-established and respected comprehensive institution with a strong liberal arts core," the prospectus said."We desire someone who is able and eager to move it to new levels of both excellence and success."
Trinkle said the committee has not ruled out hiring someone with a business or non-traditional background, but it's unlikely.Salary will be negotiated privately with the candidates.
The committee wants the entire FSC community to help choose the next president. But Trinkle said the search committee hasn't pinned down how it'll do that.

Trinkle said Reuschling is flexible about the exact day he'll leave so that the school will not be without a leader.

Trinkle, who was also chairman of the search committee that found Reuschling, said that because times have changed, a professional will ease the search process, particularly with background searches and weeding out unqualified candidates.
